Winemakers Notes
The 2008 Sanctuary Gewürztraminer is a new addition to join the Sainsbury brand. Like its counterparts, it is made in an approachable style that truly expresses the grape variety grown in Marlborough. We hope you enjoy this Gewürztraminer as much as we enjoyed making it.
Bouquet: It is intensely aromatic with a bouquet of lychees, rose petals and Turkish delight.
Palate: The bouquet flavours continue through the palate, with spicy and floral notes and a well rounded finish.
Viticulture
Harvest dates: 01st April 2008
Harvesting: Machine harvested.
Sites: Bedford Road, opposite the winery.
Vinification
Gentle pressing (pneumatic presses) prior to cold setting. The fermentation was carried out in 100% stainless steel tanks, with full temperature control.
Fermentation temperatures were kept low and we utilised carefully selected yeast strains –both helping to emphasise the wine’s aromatic characters. The wine was stop-fermented to retain a small amount of residual sugar which harmoniously balances the wine’s natural acidity.
Bottled: 20th June 2008
Alcohol: 13%
pH: 3.45
Titratable Acid: 4.9g/L
Residual Sugar: 9.8g/L
Style: The wine is made in an off-dry, easy drinking style.
