Winemakers Notes

This is a really nice example of fruit driven Marlborough Chardonnay. Barrel maturation in French oak has added a subtle complexity of oak and yeast lees autolysis.

Bouquet: A good whiff of nice French oak and some yeast autolysis frame classically Marlborough grapefruit characters in the wine. Soft and appealing.

Palate: Very direct and sinewy entry to the palate. Direct and linear structure, dry with nice texture added to by time in oak.

Viticulture

Standard VSP culture of a variety of Chardonnay clones.

Harvest dates: 14th march 2008 – 5th April 2008
Harvesting: Machine harvested.
Sites: Four Wairau Valley Vineyards

Vinification

A mixture of techniques have been used including barrel fermentation, tank fermentation, malo-lactic fermentation and ageing in French oak barriques on yeast lees.

Bottled: 9th February 2008
Alcohol: 13%
pH: 3.46
Titratable Acid: 6.9 g/L
Residual Sugar: 3 g/L

Food Matches

The higher acidity and clean fruit flavors of Marlborough Chardonnays make them very well suited to wine and food matching. This wine would go nicely with pan-fried scallops, Caesar salad and sweet and sour pork.

Cellaring

This has a nice clean structure and the acid to hold it at peak drinking for up to five years.
