Philosophy
Sanctuary’s brand symbol, the pukeko, is a vibrant and lively bird with a distinctive, cheeky personality. At our Waihopai Valley vineyard, the pukeko has made its home amongst the indigenous plants and wildlife of our treasured wetland. Like the pukeko, Sanctuary wines have energy, character and flair. Ideal for immediate enjoyment, they are wines that offer excellent value in an approachable style.
Winemakers Notes
Marlborough fruit giving the wine loads of pineapple and citrus flavours. The initial impression in the mouth is "fruit first" followed by a nice dry, weighty finish. The wine is lightly oaked, can be enjoyed with or without food and should not be over chilled on either occasion.
Bouquet: Peach, passionfruit, pineapple & light oak
Palate: Sweet entry, good rich palate, supple, fullbodied, passionfruit & pineapple, good long flavours & nice nutty after taste..

Vinification
The grapes for this wine were harvested from several Marlborough vineyards. We have picked for a range of flavours and then cool fermented the juice in stainless steel tanks at low temperature. For additional complexity, a portion of the wine has had malo-lactic fermentation, some use of oak and a short period on yeast lees. The wine has been fermented to dryness. A focus on flavour attainment and conservation is a characteristic of the Sanctuary style.
