Cellar Door

Our friendly, knowledgeable Cellar Door hosts enjoy entertaining visitors from around the world. The tasting range changes regularly to comprise a mix of new releases, limited edition and previous vintage wines. All tasting is complimentary.

We welcome groups and are happy to discuss ideas for your group visit. Our unique Aroma Demonstration (for pre-booked groups) is a fun, learning experience. Other options include a blind tasting or a gourmet tasting where wine is matched with different foods to highlight the impact that food can have on the flavour and texture of a wine.

The Vine Library

Grove Mill's unique Vine Library is located immediately outside the Cellar Door, and features a row each of 10 different grape varieties including all those the winery is famous for. The Vine Library provides visitors the opportunity to view different grape varieties and discover how each differs in fruit size, colour and taste, and in leaf size and colour. Visitors are encouraged to wander through the vines and, around harvest time, taste the grapes alongside the finished wine.

The Aroma Demonstration

The aroma demonstration allows visitors to smell all the typical aromas associated with a Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. With a glass of Sauvignon Blanc in your hand work your way through the aromas on display and try and match what you can smell in your glass to the aromas emphasized in the aroma demonstration.

The Diversion Art Gallery

Grove Mill's Cellar Door houses the Diversion Art Gallery and features exhibits from leading New Zealand artists and sculptors.  Recent exhibitors include Wayne Seyb, John Parker, John Drawbridge, Llew Summers, Eion Stevens, Gerda Leenards, Don Binney and Michael Smither.

Exhibitions change approximately every eight weeks.
All art works are for sale. For further information on the gallery and the range of artworks available for sale visit the The Diversion Gallery website, www.thediversiongallery.co.nz

The Wetland

Adjacent to our winery, and a short stroll from our cellar door along a meandering path through a well-established native plant museum, is a natural wetland, home to a growing population of wildlife including native ducks - Shoveler and Grey - Pukekos (swamp hens), Shags and other birds. The site is also a fine home for frogs - the New Zealand tree frog and the Southern Bell frog - the latter having literally leapt out of the wetland on to the Grove Mill label.

The wetland has a viewing platform at the waters edge where visitors can view the birds and read information panels. Across the wetland is the picnic area with tables and shade sails and stunning views of the mountains.

Grove Mill's wetland rehabilitation project is ongoing but was awarded the Habitat Enhancement Awards at the Marlborough Rural Environment Awards in 2001.The wetland currently covers around one hectare.

The Picnic Area

Situated on the far side of the Grove Mill wetland and within a couple of minutes walk of our cellar door and carpark, is the Grove Mill picnic area. The picnic area has picnic tables under shade sails with stunning views up the Waihopai Valley to the mountains and across the wetland to the Richmond Ranges. Come and enjoy a picnic in this beautiful and peaceful place.
